It is imperative that we take action upon our Will. It is of great significance that we make CONSCIOUS, deliberate efforts when we set a goal. No matter your desires, if you wish them to be made manifest you must take action. You need not only tune your mind to the frequencies of your desires but your physical body as well. Not only should you mind be focused upon your task, so should your physical being. If you want a job, a new car, a new relationship, deeper understanding, greater compassion, or even just to learn a new skill you must move past the focusing and planning stages and in to the action stages. Go out and put in applications. Go seek the relationship you desire. Pick up a book and study. Perform acts of kindness and care. These direct actions set your Will in your mind and they direct both mental AND physical energy towards your goals.
Do not be swayed or convinced that you can simply manifest your Will by desire alone. You know your level of Mastery. Have you ever been able to manifest your desires without direct effort? Have you ever intentionally caused or directed anything with nothing but your mind? Be honest with yourself. If you are reading this then you probably have not attained the level of Mastery required to allow you to manifest your goals by desire alone. This is fine because it is by direct action and conscious effort that we attune our mind to the frequency of our Will. It is by direct action that we convince our minds of our Will. It is by deliberate action that we overcome the Wills of those around us and elevate ourselves into Mastery. This is how we become Players instead of Pawns; Causes instead of Effects.

A common and scary theme amongst the New Age Movement is the idea of the relativism of truth. There is a growing viewpoint that assumes that truth is entirely subjective and that there is no objective truth. This viewpoint is dangerous as it can lead one to be comfortable in delusion or stagnation. It does not satisfy the thirst for knowledge or the desire for deeper understanding. This relativism leaves so much open. The idea stems from a misunderstanding of quantum mechanics and physics. Often, modern scientific findings which set in concrete the importance of the observer have lead many New Agers to believe that since the observer ‘creates reality’ through perception that the observer’s subjective reality can somehow differ from the objective reality that we all share. This is not true. Yes, our perception most certainly ‘creates’ our daily reality. Take a person with multiple personality disorder for instance. To them, each and every one of the characters they alternate through are incredibly real. They store memories of each of them. Each of them has their own beliefs and opinions sometimes even varying drastically and even conflicting with one another. While they are ‘playing’ each and every character it is a very real, subjective experience. They become that person entirely. However, to the rest of us observers it would be easy to see that the person is not literally becoming these different people. It is easy to note that they probably have not lived through all of the experiences they have simulated in order to create memories and ideas. It is easy to recognize that this afflicted person cannot actually be a 5 year old child and a 40 year old adult at the same time. That subjective reality that they live in cannot be truth.
So then, how can relativism be a legitimate stance in regards to truth? It simply cannot. At some point things must be reduced or enlarged enough that objective truth can exist. There must be a point of truth from which all other truths stem. Even if all paths lead to the same destination, by default there will be a path that is the quickest. Then there will be a path that is the easiest or least obstructed. Then there will be a path that is the shortest distance. Also, there will be a path that is the most efficient. Which path is ‘best’ may be subjective but the existence of each of these previously mentioned paths is obvious. This is where the waters become muddied and the truth becomes hard to find. Once the paths are narrowed down and the quickest is named, the shortest is named, the easiest is named, and so on and so forth….one must then choose which of these paths is ‘the best’ path for them. This is the subjective nature of truth. Due to this subjective nature, it is extremely hard to be certain of truth. Is the quickest path the best even though it may be hard? Is the easiest path the best even though it may be longer? How is the best one determined? That is the hard part of this all and does leave room for the possibility of multiple truths. However, it DOES NOT leave room for the possibility of all paths being truth. Some paths may simply be mazes leading between this path and that path while never approaching the end destination. Some paths are harmful and may result in arriving at the destination in worse condition than when you started. Some paths may be exceedingly lengthy thus greatly reducing the chance of arriving at the destination without incident. In the end, at least a few paths can be named as ‘the best’ thus eliminating the possibility of all paths being ‘the best’. Past identifying a group of ‘best paths’ or ‘likely truths’, how can we proceed to identifying objective truth? How can we be certain of legitimacy? That is where science and the scientific method comes in to save the day. We must evaluate ideas against known science and see if the ideas can withstand the test. If the ideas are past the realm of current science, then we must be creative. If the topic is one that modern science cannot satisfy, we can still ensure that the topic is at least grounded in some scientific ideas. By applying the Hermetic Principle of Correspondence (as above, so below), we can see if our ideas are rational and logical even if we cannot test them and ‘prove’ them. Science is the quantifying authority. Science is the measuring stick. This being the case, it is all the more depressing that modern science still denies the immaterial, the spiritual things of the universe. It is saddening that science has neglected to study consciousness thus far but it seems that physicists are beginning to make steps towards the study of the immaterial in a whole new way. However, we must not let the failure of science to catch up fully with spirituality dissuade us from using the scientific method and verified science to ground our truth. This, of course, means that no human can currently ‘know’ the most divine truth definitively. Science simply cannot prove such things. If you ask enough questions, you run out of the realm of the knowable and right into the realms of the unknowable. You can trace the paths out and identify many paths of truth but never THE path of truth with much assuredness. It is most likely that such an identification can never be realized by any human. Natural science has always obsessed with breaking matter down to its smallest particles. In modern times, the study of the quantum world has shown us that such a task is impossible. Once broken down far enough, matter becomes immaterial and the truth of its nature is revealed. There is no singular, smallest particle that makes up all of matter. There are many such particles that make up the smallest parts of matter together. As a collective, these particles make the existence of matter a possibility. If we apply the Principle of Correspondence as mentioned previously, we can see some rather intriguing things. Is it possible that the greatest Truth of the Universe cannot be boiled down to a singular thought but rather a group of thoughts that give rise to the entire Universe? Why yes, absolutely. This group of thoughts is known as many things. It is The Law of the Universe. The Laws of Physics. The Seven Hermetic Principles. Etc. There are many descriptive laws and principles that define what we currently know of the Universe. These laws and principles define our current understanding of The Truth. If anything does not adhere to these laws and principles, they cannot be a part of That Truth. Science gives us an unprecedented ability to define truth. We can test these laws and principles. We can use the scientific method to put these laws and principles through the ringer. If they withstand the tests, they are true and we must try to understand them to the best of our ability lest we risk becoming deceived or misled. Currently, we have no way of knowing without a doubt what The Truth really is. However, it is our duty to help discover it by applying and reflecting against the laws and principles that we know to be a part of That Truth. Science has proven without a doubt that truth can be revealed and is knowable if we have the level of understanding required. The nature of truth is not malleability or flexibility. The nature of truth is, in fact, quantifiable. It can be defined. We may lack all of the truth that constitutes The Whole Truth but that lack should not indicate that Truth is nonexistent or subjective but rather that, at a certain level, truth becomes objective. This lack of certainty should drive us to use our current knowledge of truth to find more of it and better define it. We cannot afford to adhere to false ideology or vain philosophy. We cannot afford to allow truth to be considered subjective. Ask yourself, are your favorite ideas grounded in truth? If not….get new ideas What is the New Age Movement? You likely hear this term thrown around often. If you are reading this, you are probably connected to the New Age Movement (NAM from henceforth) in some way. Maybe the NAM is what brought you here directly. Maybe the NAM is what helped you awaken and seek higher knowledge. Whatever the case, I think it is past time that the Movement be addressed on some issues that are growing worse and worse. The NAM likely began in the 1960’s due to the psychedelic revolution. Flower power, Woodstock, rejecting traditional societal values, things like that. During that time, many new and old ideas were being explored and a lot of progress was made. However, once the American government stepped in and put an end to that revolution via the War on Drugs (War on People really) progress began to come to a slow coast. Then, the revolution was sucked back into mainstream society. The revolutionaries went home and got jobs. They had to try and function in the society that they were subjected to. We cannot fault them for that. This transition back to ‘normal’ watered down the psychedelic revolution very heavily. By the 1980s, things were not being explored the way they were before. Progress slowed to a trickle as the government squeezed harder and harder. The 1990s changed all of that and gave birth to what the NAM really is today. When the internet hit the scene and became available for the common folk, things began to turn back towards revolution. This revolution was and is a revolution of information and self-education. This revolution gave rise to the sharing of information like never before. This revolution made way for the New Age Movement to really grow and develop. So we have a little backstory on the NAM. We still haven’t really discussed what it is. Again, the fact that you are reading this indicates that you likely have some ties to the NAM and that you probably have a general understanding of the practices and doctrines the NAM perpetuates. You probably already know that the Movement is simply the collaborative efforts of millions of human beings to establish a broad and all-encompassing view of the Universe. The NAM is a Movement that has basically grown through the combined research of millions of human beings connected by the bittersweet beauty that is the internet. In this respect, the Movement is absolutely terrific. The NAM has generated more idea sharing and out-of-the-box thinking than any other spiritual system of the last thousand years. So then, what the types of ideas and thinking that the NAM has generated? What is the nature of the information the Movement pushes? The NAM is nothing more than a collaborative effort; a collective mind. It is the combination of old wisdom, ancient teachings, ancient mysticism, and modern science to some degree. Many different religions, philosophies, theologies, and doctrines have been combined and mixed to create a very loose spiritual system that pretty much allows for anything without any strict doctrine. This system draws heavily from Taoism, Buddhism, and Hindu teachings. The system also draws very heavily from occult, alchemical, hermetic, and esoteric teachings. The Movement teaches that we are eternal, connected, unlimited by material constraints, and that peace and love are the answer. The NAM is mostly correct, at least at its core. I say mostly because the New Age Movement is also something else…..it is shallow. Now hold on, don’t go just yet. I have a point and I hope you stick around to read it. I do not intend to discredit or belittle the work that the Movement has accomplished. I owe much of my awakening to the NAM. Countless others probably share that beginning point. The NAM has helped in awakening (at least partially) millions of humans. I have no intention of destroying the Movement in type. However, I am a seeker. I am a finder. I am driven to find truth. It is this drive that caused me to realize a fatal flaw with the NAM. That flaw is the lack of depth and the lack of definition. The New Age crowd tends to believe that due to the illusory nature of the Universe that everyone can be right. Everyone can believe whatever mixed and matched doctrines they choose and there is no problem. All paths lead to the same destination and reality is created entirely by the observer. This belief is often rationalized with a misunderstanding of quantum physics. The NAM tends to preach that you should follow your feelings and focus on love and light. Block out the negativity of the world around you and embrace this current moment with little regard for the future. The NAM would have you believe that you need not think much of the future because you will attract the future you desire if you focus your mental energy. That statement is also based on a misunderstanding of Universal Law. It is partially correct. Partial truth is a theme with the Movement due to the lack of depth. From whence does this lack of depth and definition arise? It is simple really. When the internet became readily available and New Agers all around realized the potential for global growth they begin hammering it immediately. Like all spiritual movements, they recognized they must simplify and water down the message to attract new followers. This is fine to some degree. You can’t awaken anyone if you hammer them with complex ideas they don’t understand. You have to start them out with the simple things and help them get an understanding of where you are coming from. The problem is that most religions and spiritual movements maintain this watered down flavor. They reduce the complexity and oversimplify things to the point of no return. They do this to attract larger crowds. The simpler the message the more readily it is understood. This is a double edged sword. Sure, simplicity is imperative when you are dealing with ignorant masses and unlearned people. They must grasp the base things before they can grasp the complicated things. However, once someone grasps a small concept they should begin to expand upon that idea rather than remain in awe of the symptoms and side effects thereof. Once you grasp that the Universe is really just One Consciousness, One thing manifested in many different ways then you should not marvel at that information any longer than you must. Take that knowledge and apply it to unlock yet another secret and another bit of information. This is where the NAM falls seriously behind. The NAM has a tendency to focus on the details and effects rather than tracing the cause. Such a mindset can cause one to become infatuated with a certain idea such as crystal healing or meditation. Both of those things can have great benefits but they are merely effects of a greater cause. Such a mindset can cause one to focus only on positivity while ignoring negativity. This is fallacy as we all recognize that the Universe operates via balance. Positive and negative are not different forces. They are the same and merely vary in degree. Much like light and darkness. There cannot be one without the other. What is light without the dark to compare it to? They differ only in degree, not in composition. Anyways, this tendency to focus on anecdotal things or peripheral effects is damning and harmful. It serves only to keep us from discovering OUR true power and the truth that we really ARE everything. The Movement must develop depth and definition. What does that mean? Depth and definition? When I say that the NAM needs to develop depth, I mean that we must stop being comfortable with our current level of knowledge. You never know enough. You can never really have it figured out until the end. Why would you stop pursuing more and more depth of understanding? It is through depth that we discover our Godliness. It is through depth that we discover the creative force and planes of escape from this material existence that is such a burden to us at times. When we find doctrine that we enjoy, do not accept it as truth. It is that doctrine that we must be even more questioning of. Our ego desires to KNOW. To be right. If you feel comfortable with a certain idea (think crystal healing, reiki, meditations, earthing, sun gazing, reincarnation, etc, etc, etc) it is imperative to examine that doctrine with a very good microscope. As Terence McKenna said, “My technique is don’t believe anything. If you believe in something, you are automatically precluded from believing its opposite.” So when you find yourself in unquestioning agreement with ANYTHING you are in grave danger of stagnation and being drowned face down in shallow waters. Question everything. Including yourself. ESPECIALLY yourself. When I say that the Movement needs to develop definition, I mean that there IS a right and a wrong way to do some things. There are many right ways and many wrong ways often. Some ways are more right that others while some are more wrong than others. Yes, all roads may lead to one final point but it seems obvious to me that one of those roads will be the most efficient route. So then, is it not wise to seek that path? Of course it is wise to seek the best way. So then, this solipsism…..well it is nonsense. That kind of thinking makes it difficult to call out falsehoods when they arise. If someone claims that the Sun is made of cookie dough would we not all immediately rebuke them for such a silly idea? The same should be done of spiritual ideas. We must use science as a measuring stick. Just as a note here, when I say ‘science’ I mean the style of thinking and the method of verification rather than the modern institution of science which is often unreceptive of a non-material Universal viewpoint (even though quantum physics verifies this as true). We should not only call out bad ideas but we should encourage that behavior. Just because some YouTube guru or some ancient manuscript says something does not make it so. We must be willing to define truth and untruth. We must be willing to call out fallacy as well as be receptive when someone calls out OUR fallacy. We must DEFINE truth and lie. This completely open approach is great for beginners and the newly awakened but there must come a point where we become serious about the truth and untruth. In closing, I do not want to bash or offend. I did not write this as slam piece. This is an effort on my part to elevate the movement to higher ground. The NAM is growing at an amazing rate. We must do this now before it becomes another religion of half-truth. The focus needs to shift from awakening to growth. The new comers will find us. The message is out there. The internet is up. Social media is filled with memes and articles on the topic. There is no need to water the message down any longer. We must go deeper. When you find a new superstition or idea, examine it. Trace it to its roots and find out what the original message was. Often you’ll find that many things the NAM takes as fact are simple perversions of the symbolism of some very old idea. Seek truth even through the pain of being wrong. Seek truth even through the pain of having to reconstruct your entire view of the Universe. There is no greater reward than submerging in the deep water. |
